The Divergent Trailer Will Get You Psyched Even If You’re Not A Tween Anymore

Tris and Four in Divergent trailer November 2013It's hard being in your twenties, guys. You're not young enough anymore to know what's hip, but you're not old enough to have kids who can tell you. Harry Potter was too long ago to still be cool, but you don't know enough about the new young adult stuff coming up to be able to weed out the nonsense. It's a scary time — a pop culture Dark Ages — categorized by a constant racing heartbeat and slavish devotion to Twitter.

But as someone who's constantly on the internet, I have a skillset that can serve us all through these trying times: a job where I spend eight hours a day on the internet. Aka I sift  through things and sort out what we can't wait for (Catching Fire), what isn't worth seeing at all (Ender's Game), and what I surprisingly just got really excited for after seeing the first trailer…Divergent.

Divergent is the story of a world that's been divided down into five factions, each containing people who exemplify certain characteristics. You get sorted into one of them when you come of age, unless you're (gasp!) divergent, like the main character, Tris, played by Shailene Woodley. She doesn't match with one specific category, so she has to choose where she belongs and try to make herself fit in. DRAMA.

It sounds kind of complicated, and too be honest, I wasn't the biggest fan of the book, but everything turned around when I saw the trailer just now. Shailene looks great, Theo James is super handsome as Four, two guys from our 25 Crushable Guys Under 25 ListMiles Teller and Ansel Elgort, and you can't go wrong with a little Kate Winslet action, so everything is really coming together.

I'm not to the point yet where I'll be waiting in line at midnight to see it, but if the trailers keep looking as good as this one, I might get there by the time it comes out on March 21st, 2014.
