Vin Diesel Thinks Furious 7 Will Win The Oscar For Best Picture, So Place Your Bets Now
Vin Diesel, sentimental baby namer and carefree dancer to songs by Katy Perry and Beyonce, has a really good feeling about his new movie Furious 7. That’s the seventh movie in the Fast and the Furious franchise, in case you’re not aware. They like to be sneaky and make every sequel’s title a different play on the original title, so it’s not as obvious that they’ve made seven goddamn movies about driving cars. Except it is. It is obvious.
According to Vin Diesel, something else that’s really obvious is that Furious 7 will win an Oscar. And not just any Oscar. Vin thinks it’ll win Best Picture. He shares this belief in a new interview with Variety.
“Universal is going to have the biggest movie in history with this movie,” Diesel said in a lengthy interview with Variety for this week’s cover story. “It will probably win best picture at the Oscars, unless the Oscars don’t want to be relevant ever.”
Diesel took a breath, before offering his prediction for a second time. “This will win best picture,” Diesel said. “There is nothing that will ever come close to the power of this thing.”
How about that Kanye-esque comment about the Oscars’ relevancy? Can we expect Vin to storm the stage and grab the mic next year when the movie doesn’t win? Oh I’m sorry, I mean if the movie doesn’t win. After all, seventh time’s the charm.
Vin should really meet up with Kelly Marcel, the co-screenwriter of Fifty Shades of Grey, who was so confident Jamie Dornan would win an Oscar for his performance that she didn’t even have to see it to confirm it. Vin and Kelly can bond over the fact that absolutely no one agrees with them, and then they can comfort each other when they’re inevitably proven wrong. However, before then, I’m gonna need to know if they’re participating in any Oscar pools, because I could always use the extra cash.
But guys, this isn’t even the first time Vin has said something like this about a movie in this franchise. He also thought Fast Five would have luck at the Oscars. Oh, Vin Diesel. Never change.
