Video: Robert Pattinson Attempts To Grow Up His Image With Sexy/Violent Cronenberg Role

By  |

It seems like only yesterday, Robert Pattinson was making tortured doe eyes at Kristen Stewart in a Mormon-funded abstinence PSA called Twilight, and now he's doing sex and violence all over the place in a new film by David Cronenberg.

Cosmopolis, the trailer for which dropped yesterday, looks to contain more sexy sex and violent violence in ten seconds than Twilight has in all its films combined. Dude gets down with a naked lady in a car and shoots a hole in his own hand! Why? You'll just have to watch the movie and see.

But what's even better than all this prurient content is that it looks like it's actually going to be a good movie. It's directed by auteur David Cronenberg, who is known for his thoughtful and gripping meditations on masculinity and violence, as well as based on a book by postmodern literary master Don Delillo. It also co-stars Juliette Binoche and Paul Giamatti, who are no slouches in the acting department. This all leads me to believe that the question “Can R-Patz act when not being directed to mope woodenly about like a constipated child?” is going to be answered in the affirmative. David Cronenberg doesn't fuck around.
