The Star Of True Detective Season Two Has Been Announced And It s Out Of Left Field Colin Farrell confused GIF gifOf all the thousands and thousands (potentially a slight exaggeration) of names that were swirling around as rumored choices for True Detective season two, I was still somehow unprepared for the person that they ended up going with. Mostly because it wasn’t Jessica Chastain, but I digress.

…it’s Colin Farrell.

What? Really? I guess he’s a talented, kind of craggy dude with a certain edge to him, so he definitely makes sense as a follow-up to Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, but he’s not at all what I expected. First of all, since creator Nic Pizzolatto has said the show would have three leads instead of two this time around, I kind of figured they’d all be announced at once. Makes me wonder if that was all a ruse, and they’re really rebooting it with one lead instead of two.

And second of all, if that’s the angle they’re taking, I really thought it was going to be a lady this season! True Detective was such a new, cutting-edge show the first time around that I thought they’d want to do something unexpected by giving the lead to someone like Jessica or Elisabeth Moss, who was another name pretty heavily in the mix. (Sad that in 2014, giving a woman the lead role can still be an ‘edgy’ choice, but television’s doing pretty well as far as feminism is concerned, so baby steps.)

But okay, Colin, I guess I can get my head around you as the star or one of the stars, so why don’t you tell me a little bit about the filming process?

“I know it will be eight episodes and take around four or five months to shoot. I know very little about it, but we’re shooting in the environs of Los Angeles which is great. It means I get to stay at home and see the kids.”

Interesting. So LA this time. I can see that. Probably also means Colin will be doing an American accent, but who knows. The only other details we have right now are from Rolling Stone, who named Rachel McAdams, Vince Vaughn, Taylor Kitsch, and Elisabeth Moss as people who are all ‘rumored to be interested or involved in some way.’

Harrumph. Wake me when Jessica Chastain is on that list.
