I Hope You Don’t Want Tina Fey To Take Over SNL, Cause She’s Not Gonna

Tina Fey at Admission premiere 2013Today is a day ending in ‘Y', therefore Tina Fey is making statements that I admire and stand behind. Tiring of their endless quest to get Tina to tell them to go fuck themselves or asking her to host the 2014 Oscars with Amy Poehler, photographers and interviewers' new favorite question is whether Tina will take over for Lorne Michaels when he eventually stops running Saturday Night Live. Because that has to happen eventually, right? Lorne created the show way back in 1975 and has been the executive producer almost continuously ever since, minus a brief interruption from 1980 to 1985…but he has to stop sometime, right? Unless he's a robot, in which case we should be worried about how far he's infiltrated into the entertainment world. But regardless, assuming that Lorne's motherboard fails one day, would Tina be willing to take on the holy SNL mantle when he ultimately steps down? TELL US TINA.

“I feel like SNL is so defined by Lorne’s taste and his sensibility. He is the center of that show, and I think it should just — when he wants to stop, it should just stop.”

Yup, yeah, yes. This is the perfect way of handling that question that I would've struggled over for thirty seconds in my head and blurted out, “NO THANKS IF HE WANTSIES.” But instead of that less than eloquent response, Tina essentially ensured that she'd never be asked that question again. It's not like she said, “I don't know” or “I don't think so” or “I haven't decided”. She was like, “Nope, that's Lorne's thing, wouldn't be the same without him.” It shows respect for Lorne and respect for the show's concept and doesn't leave any room to question whether she'd want to or not. When he wants it to stop, she'll respect his decision. Just another reason why Tina is the best and we all want to be her.
