The Summer of Breakups Won’t Claim Victoria and David Beckham, Says Victoria Beckham
Basically every celebrity couple is breaking up these days, and what has officially been coined as “the summer of the celebrity breakup” (by me, so deal with that) is now lurching into the fall with Kaley Cuoco and Ryan Sweeting and Amanda Seyfried and Justin Long. The latest celebrity couple supposedly on the verge of divorcing is my all-time favorite couple: Victoria and David Beckham.
They've been married for 16 years which is an eternity in Hollywood (hell, these days, it's an eternity in normal people marriage, too!) and have long been plagued by split rumors, namely that he's cheating, but have seemed to withstand all of that. Despite being one of the world's most famous pairings, with huge amounts of fame individually and as a family, they don't often comment on the state of their union and remain pretty low-key. But Grazia magazine interviewed Victoria and asked her what's up, and she had this to say:
I have never listened to, or commented on, the rumors about any aspect of my life. I am blessed to have a wonderful husband and beautiful, healthy, happy children. Yes, we travel a lot with our respective businesses and charitable commitments, but we always make time for each other as a couple and as a family. David and I have nothing to prove. We love each other, look out for each other and are strong as both partners and parents.
I'll admit, that in my extremely scientific (lol) analysis of celebrity couples over the years, that generally, when there's smoke, there's fire… usually when someone comes out to defend and boast about their relationship, that means a split is on the horizon… but I *so* hope that isn't the case here. I absolutely love this couple and their beautiful children, and they've always seemed genuinely in love and happy (even though Victoria never smiles, so that's a pretty awesome feat!).
Victoria gave some other heart-meltingly sweet quotes about her family, saying:
My husband constantly inspires me and guides me – he has done so much good work, I look up to him and have the utmost respect and admiration for all that he has achieved. David and I both have a strong work ethic and I believe that’s a good example to set our children. David and I explain to the children what privileged lives they lead. We tell them that in many places in the world children are hungry, homeless and sick. They all understand how important it is to help others. Romeo ran the children’s marathon earlier this year and raised an amazing amount of money through sponsorship, which he divided between David’s charity and UNAIDS.
I'm hoping that the rumors here are simply just rumors and that the Beckhams will be around to give me many, many more years of #familygoals.
