Did You Like Date Movie? ‘Cause Now They’re Making A The Hunger Games Spoof
It hasn't even been two months since The Hunger Games came out, and already there's a parody in the works. Not the funny trailers or the Lana Del Rey song, but a full-fledged feature film poking fun at the dystopian YA series. And it's gonna be called The Starving Games.
Sounds a bit like the Scary Movie franchise, right? Close—the Wayans brothers seem to have been usurped by Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer, who wrote for Scary Movie and have since come up with the mainstream parodies Epic Movie, Date Movie, Meet the Spartans, and Vampires Suck. Each entry skewers the conventions of its genre, and The Starving Games sounds as if it'll be mocking blockbusters: Variety reports that the movie will include some jokes about The Avengers, Sherlock Holmes, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2.
As Giant Freakin Robot points out, these movies are easy to churn out because there aren't huge effects and the stars are unknowns, though it should be noted that 2010's Vampires Suck starred 90210‘s Matt Lanter as a parody of Edward Cullen, and Ken Jeong had a cameo as well. So maybe we can get some up-and-comers playing Katniss and Peeta… or maybe even a cameo from a dearly-departed tribute? (Alexander Ludwig, we're looking at you.)
