The Campaign May Or May Not Have Been Written In A Frat House Basement

By  |

Within five minutes of watching The Campaign, starring Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis as two completely inept politicians running for congress for all the wrong reasons, I knew it wasn't a movie for me. Mostly because I'm a fine upstanding lady who appreciates my political humor sans poop jokes and porta-potty sex scenes. But I'm just a prude who hates laughter. Also I don't have a penis, and that seem required to like this film.

Don't get me wrong, I laughed on occasion. Maybe a chortle or a giggle. But nowhere near as hard as the men did.

But that's just based on the fact that the men in the theater laughed so hard at every single gag that I thought they would shit themselves. That's not me being vulgar, that's just me making an inside joke in reference to the movie. You'll understand soon.

Although IMDB claims Chris Henchy and Shawn Harwell wrote this film. I think otherwise. After hate-watching The Newsroom for weeks, I'm pretty sure it's Aaron Sorkin. Or Charles Dickens, from the grave.

Just kidding, I don't think The Campaign was written in Hollywood. Nor was it written on the campaign trail, as writers trailed real politicians . I'm actually pretty sure it emerged after a particularly brutal hazing/brainstorming session in the basement of a frat house. You know, right after they made pledges elephant walk, they smoked a little bit and started getting deep and shit.

Before long they started quoting their parents about how messed up shit is in D.C and shit and were all like, let's write a screenplay about politics. Let's get all the brothers down here and just do this. Let's do it tonight.

Although ledge Greg found the idea of writing a sharp political comedy mocking the current political scene while also making strong suggestions about the need to completely change the landscape of our election process to be a brilliant idea, the rest of the pledges outnumbered him.

“It needs more poop humor!” they demanded. “More fart jokes!”
