So there's a brand new teaser trailer out for Star Trek: Into Darkness, the sequel to the last super awesome amazing J.J. Abrams Star Trek movie that came out in 2009, and it's pretty effing epic. Like, to the point that I got goosebumps while watching it. Well, let's be honest — it wasn't so much goosebumping as it was me nipping out. Because you see, I have a history with Star Trek. When I was a wee lass, I was only allowed to watch TV that my mom watched, and my mom loooooved her some Star Trek. She was a bonafide Trekkie and so, by extension, was I.
And until my friend J.J. Abrams came along, that was a super embarrassing thing to be. I used to have to hide my mom's U.S.S. Enterprise phone when my friends came over, and nothing was more embarrassing than her telling the story of how when I was a little kid, I said I wanted to be Data when I grew up. True stories. Both of them. But now that J.J. has rebooted the franchise with a super awesome first movie, it's legit to be a Trekkie again. It's okay to be obsessed with Captain Kirk because he's played by the extra dreamy Chris Pine, who is also joined by the foxy Zoe Saldana and Zachary Quinto.
And now the teaser trailer is out for the sequel, Into Darkness, and it's only getting cooler to be a nerd like me because the new movie looks pretty goddamn awesome as well. It reminds me of the Christopher Nolan Batman franchise except with SPACE and AWESOMENESS added. Benedict Cumberbatch plays the villain, with a lot of speculation that he'll be playing Khan. However, as has also been pointed out, that would be a huge amount of storyline to get through in one movie, so it might be more likely that he'll be playing Gary Mitchell, a villain from the original series who becomes a psychic and has to be killed by Kirk. Regardless, this is an epic trailer with lots of suitably impressive effects and spooky voiceovers, and me and my nerdy childhood frankly can't wait to see it in 2013.
