Taylor Swift’s Parents Are Trying To Take Over Her Career, And I Can Hear The Revenge Songs Now

By  |

Taylor Swift waving goodbye black and white GIFNo matter how you feel about Taylor Swift, it's pretty undeniable that she's a consummate professional. She's not quite my style, but she's running her career like a machine, and I have to respect that. But you know who apparently doesn't respect that? Her parents.

I've never heard much about them before, but apparently Scott and Andrea Swift are ‘difficult and controlling stage parents', who are getting closer and closer to having complete control over her professional career. That's a scary enough thought just on its own, but it gets worse when you realize that the two of them aren't even together! They've been married since 1988, but according to Star, they're currently living separately. They just haven't started divorce proceedings ‘because they don’t want to damage Taylor’s career'. Yikes.

But they apparently don't mind damaging her career, as reports suggest they've been the cause of a massive amount of turnover at the top of companies like CAA and WME who work with Taylor, as well as their own company, 13 Management. Taylor's been working with the same publicist for the past seven years, but she resigned last month, as did Taylor's business managers last year. According to Page Six:

“Taylor’s parents are incredibly difficult to deal with. Their expectations are enormous, and they are very hard to please. They want to pay as little as possible and treat people like shit, because they think those people are lucky to have the chance to work with a superstar like Taylor.”

Oof. That sounds like a great way to get a former employee to write a tell-all, but what do I know?

“Taylor’s parents think they can do things better, and what makes things complicated is that they no longer live together. They are not on the same page and don’t even like to be in the same room. Andrea requests that her husband not be present at meetings. Taylor is incredibly smart and professional, but at some point she’s going to need her parents to stop, before it turns into a total Katherine Heigl ‘momager’ situation.”

Oh boy. Oh boy oh boy oh boy. Somebody's gotta put a stop to this post-haste, because you know things are bad when people are dropping K-bombs. As soon as you're being compared to Katherine Heigl, you gotta get the eff out of there and reevaluate.

This all sounds pretty sketchy to me, but we should have a good update on how Taylor is coping soon, as she's currently working on her fifth album. Since she hasn't been dating anyone of late, I'm kind of counting on some parental-based revenge tracks like “Get Your Own Bank Account” and “Tell Mom I Won't Be Home For Thanksgiving”.
