Taylor Swift Threw Some Serious Shade At Kanye While Accepting Album Of The Year At The Grammys
Last night the Grammys declared that Taylor Swift had the BEST ALBUM OF
ALL TIME THE YEAR, by awarding her Album of the Year. After the requisite surprise face, a hug from her BFF Selena Gomez, and some kind of secret Parent Trap handshake with co-writer/producer Jack Antonoff, Taylor got on stage to accept her award, and she took the opportunity to throw some serious shade at Kanye West, aka that guy who called her a bitch he made famous and suggested they would have sex. Unfortunately he wasn’t in the audience for her to throw a “Kanye, what’s good?” at him.
First she thanked her fans and collaborators, and then shit got real. Taylor dropped the information that she’s “the first woman to win album of the year at the Grammys twice” (a statement I’m sure she’s been practicing in the mirror every night since she won the first time), and then she stared into the camera like Kevin Spacey and said this:
“I want to say to all the young women out there, there are going to be people along the way who will try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame. [dramatic pause] But if you just focus on the work, and you don’t let those people sidetrack you, someday when you get where you’re going, you’ll look around and you’ll know that it was you and the people who love you who put you there, and that will be the greatest feeling in the world.”
That pause made me feel like I was about to get sent to the principal’s office, even though I know the only person who should be feeling that way is Kanye West, who was “all positive energy” on Twitter last night as he continued to talk about how much debt he’s in.
I think I’m gonna start quoting this speech in everyday situations. Someone cuts me in line at the movie theater? “There are going to be people along the way who will try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame…” Someone grabs the sweater I wanted to buy from the clearance rack? “There are going to be people along the way who will try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame…” It works for everything!
