These Are the 5 Actresses the SAG Awards Nominated Over Tatiana Maslany This Year

The SAG Awards announced their nominations for the 2016 ceremony this morning. As usually happens when award shows with TV categories announce their annual choices, I immediately scrolled to the Best Actress in a Drama Series category to see if Tatiana Maslany was nominated for Orphan Black. And as happens far too often, I was disappointed.

Apparently being nominated for a SAG last year and then getting an Emmy nomination wasn't enough to earn her another nod. This Twitter user summed it up pretty well:

So who did the Screen Actors Guild prefer? Here are the five nominated actresses:

Claire Danes, Homeland
Viola Davis, How to Get Away With Murder
Julianna Margulies, The Good Wife
Maggie Smith, Downton Abbey
Robin Wright, House of Cards

Maggie Smith? Really? Don't get me wrong, she's an absolute treasure, but does she really need to be there? And for the love of God, are we really still nominating Claire Danes' cry face for things? Most of these women basically have a reserved spot in the Drama Actress category for every award show. If anyone's going to have a reserved spot, I think it should be the woman who convincingly portrays half a dozen completely unique women from week to week.

But it's not simply the fact that she plays several characters that makes Tatiana deserving of recognition. I mean, Lindsay Lohan played two characters in The Parent Trap, but I'm not exactly writing outraged letters to the Academy for not giving her an Oscar. Tatiana's performance goes so far beyond just playing different people. If you need any more explanation, just head on over to this post. Unfortunately I don't think the SAG voters read it.

You'd think an award show voted on by actors of all people would recognize what a talent Tatiana is and nominate her. Or are they all just jealous? That's right, I'm turning into a Belieber-style “UR JEALOUS” fangirl over Tatiana Maslany. THAT'S HOW GOOD SHE IS.
