Sunday Night TV Shows That Will Make Going Back To School On Monday Bearable

By  |

With the exception of seeing all of my school friends, I was never —I repeat, never— happy to leave my summer paradise to start the school year. But if anything in the world can cure the End of Summer Blues, it's some good ol' TV consumption. That, and some positive self-motivation à la Hannah Horvath.

So remove yourself from that fetal position you've contorted into and do yourself a favor and chillax with these amazing shows before school starts. (Also, will someone please send a time machine technician over my way because I just un-ironically said “chillax,” so I may be trapped in 1999.)

So, here they are: the Sunday night TV shows that will act as the silver lining on dark cloud that is the fact that your summer is officially over. I've even organized them by how much the good people of IMDb land enjoy it, so consider that silver lining number two.

1. Breaking Bad (AMC)

Breaking Bas Territory

IMDb Rating: 9.4/10 stars

Why You Should Watch: Once upon a time, after running out of bad excuses for why I'd never watched, I made the very intelligent decision to dive headfirst into the series. I can't even describe how good this show is with just the 26 measly letters the English language has. It's sooo good. Do those extra “o”s help you feel how good this show is?

2. Dexter (Showtime)

Dexter Feelings

(via)

IMDb Rating: 9/10 stars

Why You Should Watch: Dexter is about a forensics expert/vigilante serial killer, which is exactly as bizarre as it sounds. But, like, the good kind of bizarre, not the Miley-at-the-VMAS kind.

3. Revenge (ABC)

Revenge You Don't Know

(via)

IMDb Rating: 8/10 stars

Why You Should Watch: It's about a young woman who goes undercover in a community of wealthy people to get revenge on the people responsible for ending her dad's career. The third season premieres on September 29, but is that in issue? Not at all! The angels over at ABC have all of the previous episodes on their website, for your viewing pleasure.

4. The Good Wife (CBS)

The Good Wife Amateurs

(via)

IMDb Rating: 7.8/10 stars

Why You Should Watch: True story, once I had a homework assignment that only required me to watch two episodes of this show. I'm not sure if my teacher was trying to teach us something new or introduce us to a really good show, but both of those things happened. It's about a housewife-turned-fierce-lawyer, who has to now take care of everything since her husband was sent to prison and it really is as good as it sounds.

5. The Amazing Race (CBS)

The Amazing Race Running

(via)

IMDb Rating: 7.5/10 stars

Why You Should Watch: I can't quite figure out what it is about shows like this that is so addicting, but, my god, it's addictive. You basically watch 11 teams of two compete in a very large, very entertaining scavenger hunt, where the prize is $1 million. And, I don't know about you, but watching other people have fun is one of the most fun activities there is.

6. Bob's Burgers (FOX)

Bob's Burgers Boob

(via)

IMDb Rating: 7.3/10 stars

Why You Should Watch: We've already told you all about how funny this show is, so if you're still choosing to not watch, what are you even doing with your time instead? Remember, TV is priority number one, forever and always.

7. Miami Monkey (VH1)

Big Ang Sparkle

(via)

IMDb Rating: N/A

Why You Should Watch: Big Ang is truly a gift that this world should be thankful for and she's got a brand new reality show to remind everyone why. This one is about her journey to opening a new Florida restaurant, after which the show is named, and it premieres this Sunday, September 8.
