I Hope I Don’t Get Stuck in This Suburgatory

I'm sorry to say that I was underwhelmed with last night's season two premiere of Suburgatory. I had such high hopes for the show, which has become known for its over-the-top satirical take on life in suburbs. I'll admit, sometimes they go a little over the top, but I typically enjoy watching the sweet father-daughter relationship between George Altman (Jeremy Sisto) and his daughter, Tessa (Jane Levy). These two are still as sweet as ever, but I was hoping for a little bit more in the first episode back.

In particular, I was hoping to see some further development in George's relationship with Dallas Royce (Cheryl Hines), who looks and acts like she's on an episode of Real Housewives of (take your pick). Writers have been hinting at a romantic relationship between these two since practically the first episode. And recently, the web has been abuzz with spoilers that this is something we're going to see in season two. So why did these two characters barely interact last night?

But it isn’t just George who's love life is heating up this season, rumor has it his daughter Tessa may be entering into a relationship of her own. From commercials for this season, we saw her having some flirty interactions with Ryan Shay (Parker Young) who lives across the street. I think it will be an amusing match to say the least. Since, Ryan is every bit as let's say intellectually challenged as Tessa is sarcastic. We saw Tessa try to fight her attraction him last season after a brief hook up, and I was upset when the show let that storyline fade.

During this episode we instead saw Tessa trying to form a bond with her still absent mother, who has yet to be revealed. Honestly, this just didn't do anything for me. I can understand how bringing back Tessa's absent mother would add some drama to show, but that isn't what was happening here. I suppose they are setting up the groundwork for this story, but still I would have preferred to see something a little more exciting happen in this season premiere.
