The new trailer for Star Trek: Into Darkness debuted during the Super Bowl, and people are a-buzz. In the trailer J.J. Abrams gave us a sneak peak of Chris Pine's hot Captain Kirk, a very sultry Zoe Saldana and a mysterious yet-to-be-identified villain played by Benedict Cumberbatch.

Now, I have to admit, this is probably the first time I’ve ever written the words “Star Trek.” Okay, make that two times. My point is, I’m not what one would call a Trekkie. The only memory I have of Star Trek is it coming on after Saved By the Bell on the weekends and elementary-school-me thinking, “Well, the fun is over.”

But! This new trailer could make a Trekkie out of me yet. I mean, let’s not call Comic-Con to schedule my appearance on a panel anytime soon, but I'll definitely see the movie. Here's why.

First, there’s the very handsome Chris Pine with very swimmable pools of blue eyes. He plays good guy Captain Kirk and is trying to save Earth from destruction. I respect that in a man. Also, with him in that body conscious space uniforms, he can captain my starship any day.

Then there’s the very beautiful Zoe Saldana. She plays Nyota Uhura which, based on a very cursory internet search, is not the name of a Japanese carmaker as I originally thought. The important thing here is the age-old saying: “Where there is Zoe there is a romantic plotline we can all hang our hats on even if we don’t know a lot about the Star Trek franchise.” I mean, if I had a nickel for every time my Greek immigrant grandmother said that… Point being, she looks hot and there’s a kiss in the trailer, and I’ve got all I need to get by.

And then there is action. I may not be caught up on the generations long history of Star Trek, but a girl can understand the simple formula USS Enterprise + Crashing into Earth = Bad.

So Star Trek Virgins (Vekkies?) unite! Let's go see what everyone is talking about.
