’90s Kids Rejoice: There’s the Possibility of a Spice Girls and Backstreet Boys Tour

It seems really crazy and makes me feel really old, but both the Spice Girls and the Backstreet Boys are about to celebrate their 20 year anniversaries in 2016, and someone dreamed up the magical idea that the two groups should do a joint tour.

When I first read this, I thought “there's no way..” after all, it almost seemed too good to be true. I know the Backstreet Boys have done a joint tour with New Kids on the Block, so it's not out of the question, but they already did a 20th anniversary tour from May 2013- June 2015, so it's like, do we really need another one?

Well, those crazy Boys are adding fuel to the sparkly platform-wearing fire because they're hinting that it's entirely possible. A.J. McLean spoke with Rolling Stone recently, and he said this:

“The Spice Girls tour has been this idea bouncing around for the past year and a half, and it’s something we’re still talking about, but we’re going back in on the 12th to dust off the cobwebs. We’re working with a new producer, Jay Cash, who wrote ‘Sugar’ for Maroon 5. This is just the beginning phase, but we’re hoping to have the album done before our cruise in May.”

Nick Carter also told E! Online:

“I actually did a little Twitter shout-out to Mel B because we’re friends and I said, ‘Hey this could be a cool idea. What if we did a Backstreet Boys-Spice Girls tour?’ …There were talks in the past about it and we had done the New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys tour in the past. I think this would be that last hurrah—the two big groups from the late 90s. Maybe do a world tour, stadiums, stuff like that and do a package together. It’s just an idea.”

I mean, let's be real, if this actually does happen, I'll be ferociously trying to get front-row seats and it will be a defining moment in my life, for sure. But it's so hard to believe that it's been 20 years since both bands were created, since they've never REALLY gone away. BSB has had multiple ventures back into the spotlight and so have the Spice Girls, so I guess we'll see…
