The Best, Worst, And Most Awkward Of SNL In 2012
Remember your senior class superlatives in high school? Some people won Best Dressed, Nicest Smile, Most Likely To Succeed. And some people won Tallest. Or Most Likely To Never Leave Home Or Hold Down A Decent Job.
Well, this post isn't unlike the make-it-or-break-it moments of your senior year. This show has been a huge part of my life since I was a kid, staying up late on Saturday nights with my family, isolating myself from society and real friends!
Without further ado, welcome to the Saturday Night Live Superlatives for 2012!
Lindsay Lohan. Need I say more? She was the most awkward host by far — forgetting her lines for ever sketch, not tearing her eyes away from the cue cards, acting like she was 1,000x funnier than she really was. This “comeback” was one of the most painful things I've ever watched.
Sketch I Wish Would Become A Regular
Awkwardness of Lindsay aside, the Disney Housewives sketch was absolutely one of my favorites this year. Between Prince Charming's scoffing laughter and drunk Cinderella, I would love to see SNL do this kind of thing more often.
Sketch I Hope We Never See Again
“Patio Party” with Zooey Deschanel and Kristen Wiig. I think it's the first time Kristen Wiig couldn't save a sketch, because this was awful. Two southern women are crazy excited to serve crab legs to their guests. And then they don't have any crab legs. That's it.
Sketch That Will Make You Smile No Matter What
“Le Jeunes de Paris” was their take on The Artist. And it was adorable. Who knew everyone was so talented at tap dancing? I hope to see more of Taran Killam in 2013. Actually, just all Taran Killam would be fine with me.
Weirdest Moment (But I Like It)
Taran Killam appreciation continues with the Sloppy Swish! There is absolutely nothing about this sketch that makes any sort of sense, and I have no idea why it's charming and catchy but it is.
Most Accurate And Topical Sketch of 2012
What's crazy is the actual VP debate was just as entertaining, if not more, than the SNL version.
Sketch That Needs To Die Before 2013
“The Californians” run was a solid one, but with the absence of Kristen Wiig and the fact that it appears every other week, I'm over it.
Best Sketch Of The Current Season So Far
“Puppet Class” with Seth MacFarlane. I've seen this sketch probably about 6 or 7 times, I've made every single one of my friends watch it, and I'm not tired of it yet. For the rest of my life, I will inappropriately laugh every time I hear someone say “Grenada.”
Most Awkward Weekend Update Moment Because It Was So Accurate
Get in the Cage, folks. Nicholas Cage was a good sport for making fun of himself for this, because it was amazing.
Favorite Weekend Update Moment That Made Me Fall In Love With Kate McKinnon
Did you know that Jesus had an enormous, round, monkey face?
Best Celebrity Impression
It's a toss-up for me on this one, but Kate McKinnon wins them both (and my heart), because her Jodie Foster was great, and she followed it up with an Ellen DeGeneres impression that made me hit “rewind” on the DVR four times.
Worst SNL Moment of 2012 That Had Even Brian Williams Talking About It
Three words (two and a half words? meh.) Lana. Del. Ray. What was even better was Kristen Wiig's impression of Lana a few weeks later, in response to the nation's outrage.
The Best SNL Moment of 2012 That Had Me Crying And Also Envious Of Kristen Wiig's Life
She's a rainbow. She's a rainbow who is very close to Jon Hamm. Anyway, this was a very touching tribute to one of the best SNL cast members to grace the stage. God, I want her life.
