Selena Gomez Refuses To Discuss Miley In Interviews, Which I Actually Really Admire

By  |

Selena Gomez performing on Stars Dance tour November 2013I'm not always the most complimentary of Selena Gomez when it comes to her singing talent and her live performances, but one thing that I do pretty much always stand behind is her poise and class in interviews. Something about growing up Disney seems to give Selena and her peers a super-mature outlook on life at a really young age. If she was as good at making music as she is at being relaxed and likable in interviews, Selena would be running the world right now.

And the newest moment that makes me want to start a slow clap is the fact that she reportedly won't discuss Miley Cyrus in interviews. Like, reporters are told to not even ask about it. Not that I don't love analyzing every moment of Miley's VMA performance a full three months later, or reading all those open letters to her online, or having an intimate knowledge of her anatomy, but ohmygod I don't love that at all. In fact, I hate it. And I'm so glad that there are at least some people out in the world who aren't into sharing their opinions on it.

I'll admit that I'm a big part of the problem, because I write this Cyrus girl up pretty much every day, but that's honestly why I appreciate Selena's decision so much. Not every single celebrity in the world needs to give an opinion on her antics. Can't we acknowledge that she's doing this for attention (and very successfully, I might add) and just let it be enough already? There are no new opinions on her behavior that haven't been stated more eloquently than Demi Lovato‘s. Jeepers.

She does also draw the line at discussing Justin Bieber though, which is SO. RUDE. Girl, all I want to know is what's going on in that little demon's head, and instead you insist on regaling me with tales of Taylor Swift and how you see everything through her eyes and blah dee blah blah blah:

“Taylor and I dated Jonas brothers together. We met when she was 18. I was 15 or 16. She was so great to me. Then we became best friends. She would fly out to see me when I was going through something really hard. We'd eat a lot of fattening food and vent. I learnt a lot from her. She's an amazing musician. Everything I go through or say is filtered through her eyes and vision.”

Enough with your poise, lady! Keep the opinions about Miley to yourself, because that's great, but you gotta spill some more about Bieber and Taylor…because I'm a hypocrite.
