Selena Gomez Thinks She Is As Inspiring As Demi Lovato, Facts Disagree

First, I'll say that I think humanitarian work of any kind is always inspiring. Second, I'll say that there are different levels of inspiration and lastly I'll say Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato are not the same type of inspiration.

Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato both received awards on Thursday at the Unite4:Humanity event for their efforts to make the world a better place. Selena has done great humanitarian work, sure. She's been working with UNICEF since she was seventeen years old which is probably more than the average seventeen year old. We all know Demi has battled drug addictions and eating disorders. Plus, she has publicly talked about it all in an effort to help other young women in similar circumstances.

In Selena's thank you speech she thanked Demi for being her inspiration but, for some reason, acted like she and Demi occupy the same spot on the inspiration-meter:

“I want to thank Demi… just the fact that we’re here at 21 years old, and we’ve always talked about using our voice to help this generation…”

Sounds a little like GIRLS season one, but so far I'm on board.

“Sometimes I feel like we’re the only ones holding the fort and I’m so thankful for you to inspire me every day.”

Okay, here is where I'll have to stop you, Selena. You are most definitely not the only ones holding down the fort. Plenty of celebrities do charitable work. Taylor Swift helped create a music education center. Carrie Underwood founded the C.A.T.S. Foundation in her hometown and Harry Styles and Liam Payne  raised more than $800,000 for Trekstock, a London-based nonprofit that supports cancer research in 2013.

Se besides the fact that you are not the only young and charitable person, Selena, I would argue Demi is holding down much more of the fort than you are.

I don't mean to compare the girls' hardships or humanitarian work, because both girls do admirable work, but I would say that Demi is using her voice and power in a different, possibly more effective way.

So can someone please take Selena down a notch? Lorde? You There?
