How To Pronounce Saoirse Ronan’s Name And Other Questions About The Crushable 25 You Were Afraid to Ask
Now that you've spent the past day going through our 25 Crushable Girls Under 25 list, we bet you have some questions. Maybe you already knew some of the actresses, singers, athletes, and all-around amazing young women we profiled. Perhaps this is the first you're hearing many of their (unusual) names. Either way, there's so much more you want and need to know about your and our girl crushes, but you feel dumb for asking, or like you should already know.
No shame! Peruse our list of burning queries ranging from the silly to serious, and you're welcome in advance for putting your minds to rest. Plus, if we missed any, lay 'em on us in the comments!
1. How do you pronounce Saoirse Ronan's name?
All the way back when she was promoting Atonement, Saoirse told George Lopez that “it's SIR-sha, like ‘inertia.'”
2. Was Cher Lloyd named after Cher?
She is indeed! But in 2011 there was some drama when the original Cher tweeted, “Who or What is Cher Lloyd?” Unfortunately, Lloyd's fans freaked out and tweeted attacks at the music icon, while Lloyd haters gleefully joined in. Cher clarified that she meant no disrespect but also called out fans who overreacted.
Earlier this year, Cher Lloyd told MTV News that it was difficult for her at first to share a name with the icon. “It's tough because she's like the ultimate Cher and I'm just like the little new one,” she said, before joking that no one should blame her, it was her parents' choice.
3. Will the Fab Five go to the next Olympics together?
While we loved seeing the Fab Five (or “Fierce Five” as they redubbed themselves) taking twitpics together in London, there's no guarantee that they'll all reunite for the 2016 Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro. Of course, immediately following their sweep of this summer's Olympics, all the girls were confidently looking ahead four years. But with the influx of endorsements and TV roles, plus their bodies developing and the desire to go to college, nothing is written in stone.
4. Who will Tavi look like when she grows up?
Not gonna lie, the Rookie Mag creator certainly resembles both Taylor Swift and Scarlett Johansson depending on what clothes and hairstyle she's currently sporting. But actually, it's a trick question! Because Tavi is so mature she's basically already grown up.
5. Didn't I see Elizabeth Olsen in that Olsen twins movie?
You'll have to clarify which one, because in the mid-'90s Lizzie showed up in several of her older sisters' direct-to-video adventures. Catch her playing herself in The Case of Thorn Mansion, The Case of the Mystery Cruise, The Case of the Christmas Caper, The Case of the U.S. Space Camp Mission, and How The West Was Fun.
6. When will Adele give birth?
Adele announced that she was pregnant on June 29th; women often wait at least 12 weeks before announcing, so that they're out of their first trimester. Of course, some outlets claimed that Adele was further along than 3 months when she made the announcement; but the predicted date of September came and went without any baby.
“Insiders” told People that Adele is currently “laying low and nesting,” but that doesn't give us much of a clue. Certainly before 2012 is up, Adele will probably have given birth. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say… December 20th.
7. What do we do if Dakota and Elle Fanning ever experience sibling rivalry?
Find a bunker and HIDE.
8. What does Colette Carr mean when she calls herself “crazy”?
Colette's Twitter handle is @ColetteCrazy, but a better word to describe the rapper is Skitszo, the name of her new album. “I knew I wanted my album to be called ‘Skitszo' before I’d even written my first song,” she recently revealed on her blog. “It's a tribute to my uncle, Robin, who was schizophrenic, but more than that its a tribute to the man who showed me what true and pure creativity was. He was so honest and loving; free and trapped at the same time, I am forever fascinated by his beauty. Miss him everyday.”
Her song “R.O.B.I.N.” also includes lyrics like and people think you're crazy / maybe you are crazy, maybe we're all crazy / in the end who cares?
9. Are any of the girls on the list friends?
Jennifer Lawrence and Zoe Kravitz became buddy-buddy after filming X-Men: First Class, which must've made it easier for Jen to get along with Zoe's dad Lenny in The Hunger Games. And considering how much time the Girls cast spends together filming and at parties, we bet Zosia Mamet and Allison Williams are pretty close.
10. How many of the girls are actresses and singers?
While several honorees firmly stuck to either side of the fence, out of the 25 we've got four crossovers: Kat Graham (The Vampire Diaries), Jennette McCurdy (iCarly), Zoe Kravitz (X-Men: First Class), and Selena Gomez (Spring Breakers).
11. How did Tavi handle meeting Jon Hamm?
As you might have expected, Tavi mostly kept her cool when introducing Jon Hamm's “Ask A Grown Man” video on Rookie Mag. But reading between the lines, we think she was pretty psyched to have the Mad Men star do this favor, especially when she wrote in the blog post, “Jon Hamm is…well, you know who he is. He’s JON EFFING HAMM.” Yeah, that's about how we would react, too.
12. Can Imogen Poots' name get any more British?
Yes. Her full name is Imogen Gay Poots. Which only makes us love her more.
13. What would it look like if Emma Stone and Jennifer Lawrence ever met?
