5 Reasons The SAG Awards Are Better Than The Oscars (But Not As Fun As The Globes)

Look, we all know that the Oscars are the golden boy of awards season.  Literally.  Oscar is an actual golden boy.  But enough of the obvious — clearly, this is the award every nominee of every awards show desperately wants to win.  And it's the award show everyone wants to watch.  But let's be honest here: that lull between the first batch of awards we actually care about and the last batch of awards we actually care about can be a real snooze-fest. I understand that it takes just as much talent (if not more) to design costumes, animated documentaries less than 2 minutes long, etc.  But no one watching the Academy Awards at home in their jammies gives a hoot about those people.  Sorry I'm not sorry.

The Screen Actors Guild awards are short, sweet, and chalk-full of our favorite people and awards.  While they have a lot to live up to this year thanks to Tina Fey and Amy Poehler's excellent hosting skills present at the Golden Globes, they're still a good time.  Here are 5 reasons why the SAG awards don't totally suck:

1.) Moments like “The Scorcese Drinking Game”

2.) Best Female Actor in a Drama Series is comprised of nothing but Downton Abbey, Homeland, and American Horror Story.  (Sorry, Julianna Marguiles, I'm not counting you because you always win and I don't like your show.)

3.) Meryl Streep actually lost an award once. BOOM! Viola Davis in yo face!

4.) The SAGs are a shorter show, which means Anne Hathaway can't Kanye the shit out of it with her wide-eyed thank-yous.

5.) The cast of Modern Family is nominated, and they are a good time just about anywhere.
