Rooney Mara Goes Crazy On Channing Tatum In The Side Effects Trailer

Rooney Mara Side Effects trailer The Bitter Pill Channing Tatum Jude Law Steven SoderberghDoes this look like the face of a woman who would kill someone? If you answered “no,” then you're wrong. Rooney Mara may have traded her Girl with the Dragon Tattoo fierceness for a more normal look, but that doesn't mean we don't get to watch her get insane, violent, and obsessive in her new movie.

The first trailer is out for Steven Soderbergh‘s latest thriller Side Effects, and it looks like it'll do for prescription drugs what Contagion did for the flu. We knew of this project when it was filming in New York City because we were shaking with the knowledge that Channing Tatum was in the same city as us. At the time, it was called The Bitter Pill, but the studio seems to have changed the title. Here's the synopsis:

Side Effects is a psychological thriller set in the world of the pharmaceutical industry. A troubled woman (Mara) who is coping with the imminent release of her husband (Tatum) from jail begins to take a new prescription drug with unforeseen consequences.

From what we can tell in the trailer, Rooney's character is afflicted with some sort of depression, but the new drug her psychiatrist (Jude Law) prescribes brings her back to life. That is, until she kills someone and then goes on the run. From the lack of Channing in the latter half of the trailer, I'm gonna guess that Rooney kills him. Especially since she has some sort of attraction/obsession with Jude Law's character. And it's unclear how much he's been encouraging her—if he's interested too, if he knows that the drug has side effects and needs to shut her up, or what.

Regardless, Rooney and Channing are two of my favorite actors right now, so I'm excited to see them in a thriller. Side Effects comes out February 8, 2013. Right in time for Valentine's Day? I guess so, if you're into murder and deceit and Rooney Mara in her underwear.
