21 Rising Young Hollywood Stars To Watch This Year

By  |

A new set of kids emerge to take over the Young Hollywood sphere every single year, and that's a fact. Whether they're from YouTube, the Disney Channel cave of child star wonders, or Hollywood, they come ready to work their way into your heart and achieve international stardom. You don't have to look any further than Cody Simpson, Zendaya, or even Bella Thorne to see evidence that it happens; last year they were words whispered on teen tongues and this year they're huge.

So to help you get ahead of the curve and know these names before they make it big, we rounded up some of the hottest rising young stars. Where? We searched everywhere, and these are the twenty-one picks that we found worthy of our list. So sit back, relax and enjoy the smug sense of superiority that comes with knowing who's about to take over Hollywood.

1. Kiernan Shipka, 14

I see Kiernan as an Emma Watson in training, because in addition to be being a talented actress on Mad Men, she's impeccably stylish and extremely mature. She made the jump to the big screen in Very Good Girls, the new movie about losing your v-card that stars Dakota Fanning and Elizabeth Olsen, and she's set to star in The Greens Are Gone with Maya Rudolph, Molly Shannon, and Catherine Keener in 2015. Which works out well since that's when Mad Men officially ends.

2. Aubrey Peeples, 20

Aubrey's already made her debut as Layla Grant on Nashville and even starred in our personal favorite movie, Sharknado. But it must be hard to shine behind the shadow of Connie Britton and her perfect hair or a so-bad-it's-good movie, which is why I'm so happy she's starring as Jem in Jem and the Holograms out in 2016. Who else thinks she's going to pull off that pink hair perfectly? What's that? Oh, everyone.

3. Sabrina Carpenter, 15

Like most Disney stars, Sabrina Carpenter is an actress as well as a singer. She plays Maya Hart on Girl Meets World and she and costar, Rowan Blanchard sing the Girl Meets World theme song, “Take On The World.” Her EP “Can't Blame A Girl For Trying” was not only well-received, but also extremely catchy. Her voice is surprisingly powerful despite her age — if you don't believe me, check out her cover of “Radio Active” or “Stay With Me”,and prepare for your mind to be blown. Her debut album is set to drop in the fall and I for one can't wait to hear it. (And for a final fun fact, she was in an episode of the first season of Orange Is The New Black where she played mean girl Jessica Wedge who hurt Alex's feelings in middle school.)

4. Ross Lynch, 18

If Ross looks familiar, it may be because you recognize his face from the Tiger Beat magazines scattered in the grocery store aisles that you couldn't tear your eyes away from. And I totally understand why, because just look at that smolder! But his tween-heart-melting good looks aren't everything — this guy is also incredibly busy. He and his band R5 are releasing a second album this September, he plays the lead in Teen Beach Party Austin, and also has a regular gig on the Disney Channel series, Austin & Ally! Still not impressed? Well the kids are, because they voted for him to take away the Kid's Choice Award this summer for Favorite TV Actor.

5. Nicola Peltz, 20

After seeing Nicola in Transformers: Age of Extinction it's hard to believe that she played Kartara in The Last Airbender! But she's making the transition from former Nickelodeon star to rising actress beautifully, with a part in the new Transformers trilogy with Mark Wahlberg and a starring role on A&E's Bates Motel. With her rising popularity and role in a major franchise combined with her lack of smiling in pictures, Nicola's also in the running to be in the next Kristen Stewart. Whether it's on purpose or not, she's got that brooding look down.

6. Madison Beer, 15

Madison has already proven herself as a strong singer after releasing her two singles ‘Unbroken' and ‘Melodies', and even recording a song with Cody Simpson last year called ‘Valentine' that was never officially released. As Crushable learned in our Facebook Q&A with Madison, she is truly dedicated to her music and her dream and has gathered an incredibly large fan base despite releasing only two singles. It's only going to continue growing once she releases her new album this year.

7. Jacob Latimore, 18

One Tree Hill fans may remember Jacob as a guest star on the show back in 2009, playing basketball with Nathan. But the days of brooding around Tree Hill are over for him and he's moving on to bigger and better things. In 2013, he was in the movie Black Nativity alongside Forest Whitaker and Angela Bassett, a role that helped bring him some fame. But we're pretty sure his starring role in the highly anticipated Maze Runner will do even more to launch him into super stardom! He also has another movie, Just One Shot, which is set for a 2015 release. And on top of that, he's also an R&B/pop recording artist, so look out for more music and singles from Jacob this year!

8. Joey King, 15

Joey plays Zach Braff's daughter in his Kickstarter-funded movie, Wish I Was Here, out this summer. Though she's already made a great impression on young people in Ramona and Beezus with Selena Gomez and has had a guest role on New Girl, she's been gaining a larger adult fanbase playing Greta Grimly on Fargo. Oh and fun fact — she also had a role in Taylor Swift's music video for ‘Mean'! This year, she'll continue making a name for herself by starring as Jessie in The Boxcar Children and Miss Quentin in The Sound and the Fury alongside Jon Hamm and James Franco. But as she made sure to tell us in our interview, her busy plate won't stop her from being a kid and having fun.

9. Olivia Holt, 17

Olivia Holt is a Disney Channel Queen. After playing Kim on Disney's XD Original Series Kickin' It, she now has a lead role on Disney's new series I Didn't Do It playing Lindy Watson, a nerdy, athletic outcast who's trying to figure out high school. Her song “Had Me @ Hello” won a Radio Disney Music Award in 2013 for Best Crush Song, and she's following her passion for music even further by working on an album!

10. Gigi Hadid, 19

Gigi may have once been known as Cody Simpson's on-again-off-again girlfriend, but thankfully her modeling career has begun to overshadow her dating status recently. She's Tom Ford's recent go-to model, featured in both his perfume ad for ‘Velvet Orchid' and as the new model for his Fall/Winter 2014 eye wear campaign alongside Patrick Schwarzenegger. She was also featured in Sports Illustrateds swimsuit edition this past spring, and is a recurring guest star on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. As her celebrity continues to grow, there's no doubt she'll be sought out by most major fashion labels by next year.

11. Octavius J. Johnson

Octavius has already made a name for himself by starring as Marvin Gaye Washington on Showtime's Ray Donovan with Liev Schreiber, and now he's beginning to branch out into the movie scene as well, with projects like Coldwater, about a juvenile reform facility and 59 Seconds, about a teenager who is struggling with overcoming the death of his twin brother. Word of advice, start sending him DMs now before he blows up and becomes a big star.

12. Peyton List, 16

There must be something in the water at Disney, because they continually shell out amazingly talented young actors, actresses, and singers. And Peyton is no exception! Though some might recognize her as Holly Hills in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid movies, she's currently starring on the Disney Channel show, Jessie. She is also a co-host on Disney's Pass the Plate which encourages teens to live healthier lifestyles by sharing cultural, historical, and fun facts about food, and will star in the upcoming movie, The Outskirts with Victoria Justice about a girl who falls victim to a cruel joke.

13. Bailee Madison, 14

At just fifteen, Bailee has quite the impressive resume already. She was amazing as Hillary Rodham Harrison in Trophy Wife (RIP) and she was extremely adorable as a young Snow White in Once Upon A Time. This year, she has a recurring role on ABC Family's The Fosters as Sophia Quinn and is set to star in the Hallmark series, The Good WitchHere's hoping that Trophy Wife will pull an Arrested Development and give us another season of Bailee's awesomeness via Netflix.

14. Dylan O'Brien, 22

Dylan is already fairly popular from his role on as Stiles on MTV's Teen Wolf, but his roles as Stuart Twombly in 2013's The Internship and Thomas in The Maze Runner are escalating him from television star to movie star. And it seems like you guys agree with us, seeing as Dylan just won the Young Hollywood Awards for Breakthrough Actor in July.

15. China Anne McClain, 15

China has grown up a lot since playing the little girl on Tyler Perry's House of Payne. Now she's moved on to portraying the musically gifted Chyna Parks in the Disney Channel Original Series A.N.T. Farm and will play Gabby Harrison in the Disney Channel Original Movie How to Build a Better Boy out this month. An aspiring singer as well, she's hoping to release an album with the band she and her sisters started, McClain Sisters, by the end of the year. (Although it should be noted, China hardly has to prove her singing talents, considering she won the ABC reality show Sing Your Face Off in June.) Certainly someone to put on your Spotify playlist.

16. Caitlin Stasey, 24

Though Caitlin already has a strong fanbase in Australia, where she originally hails from, her role as Kenna on The C.W.'s Reign is allowing her to gather an American following as well, as is her starring role alongside Aaron Eckhart and Bill Nighy in I, Frankenstein out this Fall. As one of the few celebrities proud to call herself a feminist, Caitlin uses her celebrity to tweet about feminism, regularly calling out the misogyny of the media. She also tweets about her love for OITNB too so if you're looking for a role model, look no further. You can sen me a thank you note later.

17. Aurora Perrineau, 19

She may not be even remotely close to your radar, but I'm calling it right now — Aurora is going to blow up. She's the daughter of Lost star Harold Perrineau, and has also begun to make a name for herself in her own right in the acting world. She's guest-starred on everything from Pretty Little Liars to the horror movie A House Is Not A Home, and by the end of 2016,even your mom is likely to know her name. She'll be in the movie Equals alongside Kristen Stewart and Nicolas Hoult, scheduled for 2015 release, and also playing Shana in Jem and the Holograms with Aubrey Peeples, out in 2016.

18. Odeya Rush, 17

Odeya is more than just Taylor Swift's newest Instagram BFF, she's also a model turned actress. Some may recognize her from her role as Joni in The Odd Life of Timothy Green, but we're thinking The Giver is going to be her big break. She'll be playing Fiona, so get excited to see her acting alongside Meryl Streep, Jeff Bridges, and Brenton Thwaites when the movie finally comes out this month. She'll also be doing the film adaptation of Goosebumps playing Hannah Stine, the daughter of Jack Black's character, R.L. Stine. Goosebumps may not be out until 2015, but we're pretty sure Odeya will be worth the wait.

19. Becky G, 17

Becky G has already proven herself as a talented songwriter and singer by co-writing and being featured on songs for Cody Simpson and Cher Lloyd. She also had a hit song with Pitbull in Latin America last year, and is currently gracing the radio with her summer smash hit ‘Summer'. Never has a song played on repeat in our brains so perpetually since ‘Call Me Maybe'. (And now it's in your head too. Sorry not sorry.) Please keep making catchy music, Becky G.

20. Cameron Monaghan, 20

Cameron starred in Vampire Academy  this winter, but you may have recognized him from before that for his role as Ian Gallagher on Showtime's Shameless with Emmy Rossum and William H. Macy. He'll be playing the role of Asher in The Giver and I'm really excited to see if he lives up to my sixth grade expectations. (Fingers crossed!) And finally, he and 2013 Rising Star Bella Thorne are also starring in the twelfth movie in the Amityville Horror saga, Amityville that's set to come out in January of 2015.

21. Laura Marano, 18

What better way to end the list than to finish it with a Disney Channel star? We can't think of one! Laura originally became a tween name playing Ally on Austin & Ally with Ross Lynch, and is now branching out into movies as well with a couple movie roles — Amy in A Sort of Homecoming and a lead in Bad Hair Day. But my favorite thing about Laura has to be that she played a young Sarah Silverman on Sarah Silverman Program. Absolutely amazing, and perfectly explains why her tweets are so funny.
