Reese Witherspoon Is Up for Legally Blonde 3, but I Think We’re Good
Reese Witherspoon recently appeared on Rachel Zoe's talk show Fashionably Late. Yes, Rachel Zoe still exists, and yes, she has a talk show, on Lifetime no less. But that's not what we're here to talk about, momentous as that news is. We're here to talk about what Reese said about the possibility of another Legally Blonde movie. In case you're keeping count, that would be Legally Blonde 3.
Here's what she said:
“It would be pretty cool, I think we're ready to see Elle and see what she's up to lately.”
She added that another Elle Woods movie could tie in to the current U.S. political situation:
“It’s kind of great right now because we’re talking about women in politics and how important that is to get more women. And I think it’d be kind of a cool thing to have her be a Supreme Court justice or somebody who runs for office.”
Reese said that some ideas for a third movie have been pitched over the years, but there are no concrete plans to make it right now. I have to say that it's nice that Reese is so enthusiastic about the possibility of reprising the role. Some actors do everything they can to separate themselves from the movies that made them famous, or they reply with a halfhearted “maybe” when asked about reunions and sequels.
That said, I'm pretty sure we don't need another Legally Blonde movie. Don't get me wrong, I love the original. Love love love love love. I watch it whenever it's on TV — in other words, every single weekend. But to be honest, I never even saw the sequel, Red, White and Blonde, and I don't have much interest in changing that. I'm pretty sure one rotten follow-up and a Broadway musical is enough. Maybe just do an SNL skit or a Tonight Show segment and call it a day.
Oh, who am I kidding? We're probably only a few years away from Legally Blonde: The Musical: The Movie.
