Pretty Little Liars Season Finale Broke Social Media Records
This past Monday night the Pretty Little Liars‘ episode was one of those on-the-edge of your seat thrillers. After all this time, the season finale was going to finally reveal the identity of character A, and fans everywhere were all but pissing themselves in excitement!
As tension and curiosity ran high and speculation as to who this mysterious A was, social media was completely taken over! Now that the results are in, according to social media rating agencies, that particular episode was the most tweeted and Facebooked (such a dumb verb) television series in history. Granted, social media is still fairly new when you compare it to the dawn of mankind, but it still broke a record.
This isn't the first time that some record has been broken in the social media world. If we all recall it was just over a year ago when Charlie “Winning” Sheen managed to reach 1 million followers in 25 hours and 17 minutes, according to the Guinness Book of World Records. But when you're telling people in interviews that you're on a drug and it's called “Charlie Sheen,” claiming you have tiger blood, shacking up with two porn stars and you're babbling about warlocks and the like, it's not surprising that so many would tune in for such madness. Charlie, you've been so quiet lately!
But as far as TV series go, it was thanks to the elusive character A that resulted in nearly 850,000 tweets about a show in one day ever – a new record. To quote The New York Post:
For a series with a peak audience of around 3 million viewers, that number indicates nearly one social media message for every three viewers — a huge number.
