Here’s The Deleted Abortion Scene From The Perks Of Being A Wallflower That Was Too Heavy For You

perks of being a wallflower abortion scene

Right around the time that The Perks of Being a Wallflower premiered, we heard that the powers to be decided to cut a controversial abortion scene from the movie. Bear in mind, it's controversial simply because it's about a teen girl getting an abortion. That's all.

When speaking about the abortion scene last year, Nina Dobrev explained why they felt the need to cut it:

“We shot the clinic scene and a few scenes post-clinic, but unfortunately the movie was rated R, and it got a little too heavy,” Nina explained. “So we had to take them out, so that the viewers who the movie is intended for could watch it.” Of filming the scene, she said, “It was definitely a little crazy, but, you know, it’s what a lot of people go through. It was a big part of the book; Candace and Charlie drifted apart for a little while, and tragedy is what brings people together.”

As someone who sat through the movie, I don't think it needed this scene. But only because the movie spent two hours glossing over a neverending list of serious issues that all got resolved by standing up in the back of a pick-up truck and thinking really deep thoughts about life. Not because I don't think teens can handle watching a scene about an abortion. Especially considering this part of the abortion story line doesn't even involve the actual procedure. Just a tender moment between two siblings who just experienced a significant moment in their lives together.

But in case you felt like the movie needed one more “very special episode moment,” here's the deleted scene between Candace (Nina Dobrev) and Charlie (Logan Lerman) that powers that be thought you couldn't handle.
