Peaches Geldof Is Dead At Twenty-Five, And Her Dad’s Response Will Break Your Heart

Peaches Geldof attending event in April 2014 just four days before her deathIn tragic, blindsiding news, Peaches Geldof has died of unknown causes at only twenty-five years old.

Peaches was the second daughter of Bob Geldof and Paula Yates, and in life, she worked as a television presenter, a model, and a journalist. She was also wife to Thomas Cohen, of the UK band S.C.U.M., whom she married in September 2012, and mother to two young boys, Astala Dylan Willow, born in 2012, and Phaedra Bloom Forever, born in 2013. They both have birthdays later this month.

Peaches died at her home in Wrotham, Kent, a town whose police have yet to release a cause of death or even a theory:

“Police were called at 1:35 p.m. on 7 April 2014 to an address near Wrotham following a report of concern for the welfare of a woman. A woman aged 25 was pronounced dead by South East Coast Ambulance Service.

At this stage, the death is being treated as an unexplained and sudden death. Officers are working to establish the circumstances around the death.”

Tragically, the same thing could be said about Peaches' mother's death in 2000 after an accidental heroin overdose. As any child would be, she was incredibly affected by it, telling Elle Magazine:

“I remember the day my mother died, and it's still hard to talk about it. I just blocked it out. I went to school the next day because my father's mentality was ‘keep calm and carry on'. So we all went to school and tried to act as if nothing had happened. But it had happened. I didn't grieve. I didn't cry at her funeral. I couldn't express anything because I was just numb to it all. I didn't start grieving for my mother properly until I was maybe 16.”

Peaches was photographed at an event as recently as four days ago, in the photo that began this post, and was also active on social media all weekend, posting photos and videos of her boys, and an ominous final tweet yesterday linking to an Instagram photo of herself and her mother.

Her husband has released a statement speaking for himself and their two children, saying:

“My beloved wife Peaches was adored by myself and her two sons Astala and Phaedra and I shall bring them up with their mother in their hearts everyday. We shall love her forever.”

But it's Peaches' dad Bob Geldof's response that really has me tearing up:

Peaches has died. We are beyond pain.

She was the wildest, funniest, cleverest, wittiest and the most bonkers of all of us.

Writing ‘was’ destroys me afresh. What a beautiful child. How is this possible that we will not see her again? How is that bearable?

We loved her and will cherish her forever. How sad that sentence is.

Tom and her sons Astala and Phaedra will always belong in our family, fractured so often, but never broken.

Bob, Jeanne, Fifi, Pixie and Tiger Geldof.

Ugh. My heart. Our heart goes out to everyone involved.
