Boy Band Crisis Averted: One Direction Feared A Fight With The Wanted
When I see adorable boy band One Direction and fight in the same headline I assume they're talking about the group's rabid female fans tearing each other limb from limb to get one step closer to their idols. Turns out the teen singers — Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, Niall Horan — themselves were in fear of a fight with rival band the members of The Wanted: Max George, Siva Kaneswaran, Jay McGuiness, Tom Parker and Nathan Sykes.
The members of One Direction were prepping for their SNL gig last week at a rehearsal studio called CenterStaging when they found out the older and more muscular looking group The Wanted would be dropping into the same studio to practice for their spot on American Idol. Like a teen in the mall who spots her boyfriend's bitter ex One Direction's instinct was to run awaaaay in case the big kids wanted to steal their lunch money (or worse, mess up their hair).
It should be noted One Direction's Liam was unafraid, so if you're into tough guys he should be the one you tape inside your locker.
Before the One Direction boys could leave The Wanted showed up, possibly cracking their knuckles and humming the Jaws theme in four part harmony. After a quick talk between the bands' security One Direction's fears came out. To prove they aren't so scarey The Wanted's Max hugged the fearless Liam. No word on whether they sang a group number as a Glee style truce.
Crisis averted for this generation's stock of boy band members, but the almost fight brings up the question, which boy band of the 90s would strike fear into the heart of another? Did the boys of Hanson hide under a couch when they heard The Backstreet Boys might stop by to say hello? I think O-Town could have taken on any rival group in a fight if it came down to it. Those guys looked like they could handle themselves.
