No Doubt Has The Song Of The Day, But Here Are Some Runners-Up
The newly and gloriously reunited No Doubt released the video for the title single off their new album Push and Shove today, and I won't say it was worth the wait (as the wait was hella long), but it's the most excited I've been about a pop song in a while. A catchy hook, Gwen's inimitably cool voice, and guest spots from Major Lazer and dancehall reggae star Busy Signal combine with No Doubt's signature sense of weirdness/claustrophobia to make a song I cannot stop playing and a video I can't stop watching. Look how much fun they're all having! Wouldn't you like to be part of their crew?
But as much as I am only going to listen to this song for the rest of the day, I realize not everyone wants to do that, so here are some more songs that were released today:
Ke$ha, “Die Young”
If you find Ke$ha annoying, this song will be no exception. Lord knows I do. But that doesn't mean this song won't still annoy my feet into dancing if I happen to hear it at a certain point in one of my raging nights.
Taylor Swift, “Begin Again”
When Taylor Swift sings “and you throw your head back laughing like a little kid,” does she realize it's funny because the person she's “beginning again” with actually is a little kid?
Lana Del Rey, “Ride”
Since “quitting music,” Lana Del Rey has apparently decided to keep re-releasing the same album with extra songs in an effort to go back in time and get it right. This song has less annoying baby talk and overwrought strings than other songs by LDR, but she still sings like a crappier Stevie Nicks and pronounces “wit' you” like she's having a mini-stroke, and also calls her lover “daddy” about thirty seconds before mentioning her actual dad, so I'll call it a wash?
