Mariah Carey Accuses Nicki Minaj Of Creating An ‘Unsafe Working Environment’ At American Idol
Has anyone else just been waiting on the edge of their seat for more details to come out in the Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey feud? Ugh god, it's been forever, but finally FINALLY we're getting more details. Nicki and Mariah are both judges on this upcoming season of American Idol, and there was some definite friction. According to Barbara Walters, Mariah went into the season with the understanding that she would be the only female judge, so when Nicki got signed on too, that was one unhappy Mimi. (She also went into the season with $18 million in her pocket, so maybe chill with the rest of the complaints, sweetpea.) Stuff escalated to the point that they screamed at each other on multiple occasions, one of which was released in heavily-bleeped form by TMZ, with Nicki getting reeeeeal sassy at Mariah.
But apparently the real drama happened offscreen, with multiple sources saying they heard Nicki say that if she had a gun, she would “shoot that fucking bitch”. Ohhhh Nicki. I really hope you didn't say that. That would be such a dumb thing to rattle off in the momen. Have you met Mariah Carey? She takes herself reeeeal seriously. Here's how she describes the incident:
“It felt like an unsafe work environment. Anytime anybody's reeling threats at anybody. Sitting there on the road with two babies, I'm not gonna take any chances, so yeah, I did hire more security.”
Naturally Nicki has denied that she said anything about a gun or hurting Mariah, and apparently the two put aside their differences at the end of the season, but I guess I'm still surprised to see it really got that heated. I originally figured it was just a ploy for publicity, and it still might be, but it seems less likely now that Mariah had to spend actual money to get more security for herself and her kids. That's a long way to go for a ploy for attention. But this is American Idol we're talking about, and they are losing judges like flies, so I wouldn't put it past them.
