The New Maleficent Trailer Will Give You Goosebumps For The Rest Of The Day

Angelina Jolie as Maleficent in upcoming live action Disney film 2014My only advice is that you wrap up your work for the day before you watch the new trailer for Maleficent, because I didn't do that and now I have to type with goosebumps for the whole rest of the day.

It premiered last night during The Grammys, but somehow I missed it then, probably because I was too busy sympathizing with Taylor Swift‘s poor, abused spine and trying to come up with better jokes about Pharrell‘s hat than the one Arby's tweeted out. If there's anything I can't stand, it's when fast food companies out-snark me during award shows.

But anyway, I took my eyes off the television set for one second and missed the trailer, so when I came in today, I was pretty excited to see it. After all, I put Maleficent on my list of 2014 movies that we should all be lining up to see already, so I'm solidly on board with the hype machine. But not even I was prepared for how utterly creepy — in a good way — the newest teaser would be. Take a looksie:

The spot is called ‘Dream', and the whole thing is backed with a super eerie lullaby, with only about ten words of dialogue. (Probably a good thing, because I still don't fully understand why Elle Fanning has to struggle her way through a British accent to play Aurora.) They're all delivered by Maleficent herself, Miss Angelina Jolie, who seems determined to remind us that even though she's done campy action roles and voiced animated movies, she's also an intense, subtle actor who's been nominated for two Academy Awards. One of which she won, for Best Supporting Actress in Girl, Interrupted.

So yeah, she knows what she's doing, and if she wants to scare the bejeezus out of you with her creepy eyes, slow smile, and perfect make-up…SHE'S DAMN WELL GONNA DO IT. Shudder.
