The New Mockingjay Poster Features The C-Word Front And Center, Whoops

Mockingjay Part 2 poster

Earlier this week marked 100 days until the release of Mockingjay Part 2, the fourth installment in the Hunger Games movie series. To mark the occasion, the movie's Twitter account shared a poster declaring “100 DAYS UNTIL.” The image is from one of several character posters released last month, this one featuring Katniss with war paint on her face. It all seems innocent enough until you look more closely and realize that smack-dab in the middle of the poster is the C-word.

This being the Internet, people were quick to point it out, and now it can't be unseen. Have you spotted it yet? Here's a hint. Don't look at the second zero in 100 as a zero, but rather as what it looks like — a C. Then go ahead and cover up the “-il” in “until.” See it now? Here it is close up if you're still not seeing it. (Cover your eyes if you have delicate sensibilities or are a child.)

Mockingjay c-word

I think I speak pretty accurately for whoever made this poster when I say, “Whoops.” I can't be sure I would have spotted it if I hadn't known about it beforehand, but now that I've seen it, I can't unsee it. I can't believe no one in the process of making this and posting it online looked at it and said, “Gee, that zero kind of looks like a C… OH GOOD GOD NOBODY POST THIS!”

And the thing is, having the “until” there looks awkward anyway. Arranging words that way can lead to confusion, even if it doesn't unintentionally spell a curse word. People might read it as “100 UNTIL DAYS,” which doesn't make any sense. It would have worked just fine and actually been more striking if the poster simply said “100 DAYS.” Nobody's going to wonder what they mean by that. It's a poster for Mockingjay Part 2. We get that it's a countdown. And the tweet itself says “100 days left until,” so I'm pretty sure everyone would understand. But then, of course, we wouldn't get to facepalm over it.
