Mindy Kaling’s Exercise Motivation Is So Brilliant, You’ll Be Jogging As Soon As She’s Done Explaining

Mindy Kaling Conan April 2014

This is just a friendly reminder to everyone that if you haven't added Mindy Kaling to your girl crush list yet, you should do so immediately. I took far too long to jot her name down, but I've since upgraded her from pencil to ballpoint pen to Sharpie, and if she does anymore of these down-to-earth talk show interviews, I think I'm going to have to skip right to blood. She's just increasingly entertaining and relatable and funny, and the exercise tips she shared with Conan O'Brien last night definitely didn't hurt.

You might be one of those people who “enjoys” exercising and “does it every day” and “has a gym membership.” I put all those phrases in quotes because I'm still not entirely convinced any of those things exist anywhere other than a Goop newsletter. So you can probably already guess that I'm not so into moving. Sitting is my favorite pastime. I could medal in it. But sometimes even I feel the need to look after my health, so I fit some light anti-sitting (that's my word for exercise) into my schedule. Now that I have Mindy's ideas for motivation in the back of my mind, I feel like I could jog around a track more than once.

I won't spoil the whole thing for you because Mindy is really great at explaining it, but suffice it to say it involves Michael Fassbender, racism, Nazis and Brazil. I'm sure it still works if you replace Michael Fassbender with Ryan Gosling or Zac Efron or whatever set of abs you prefer to fantasize about. Mindy admits that her idea has gotten people to work out before, but be warned! Sometimes your mind can wander away from your celebrity husband and you end up imaginary-hanging-out with Beyonce. That's just my permanent state of mind 24/7, though, so no biggie.
