Miley Cyrus May Be Hospitalized For A Drug Detox — Otherwise This Doesn’t Check Out

Miley Cyrus smoking pot GIFWhen Miley Cyrus was first hospitalized a couple weeks ago, I applauded her for not using a crappy excuse like ‘exhaustion', and really taking care of her body. But it seems I may have spoken too soon, as new information suggests her stay might be less about an allergic reaction and more about a drug detox. Yikes.

The original story we were hearing was that Miley had contracted a sinus infection due to not getting enough rest after the tragic death of her dog, Floyd. She'd been having crying jags in the middle of the night, preventing her from sleeping properly, and many reports indicated that she'd been partying pretty hard to try to forget about the situation. So her immune system eventually gave out, as immune systems are wont to do if you push them too hard, and she was prescribed a drug called Cephalexin, which she'd never taken before. Here's the official statement from here team around that time:

“She was prescribed the antibiotic Cephalexin which she has now suffered an extreme allergic reaction to. This type of extreme reaction can last from five to 27 days in these types of cases. She will remain hospitalized and is under a doctor’s care until we see some improvement in her condition and is asking for your compassion and privacy at this time.”

There were even reports saying that if she didn't give herself four weeks of bed rest, she could be at risk of a stroke. But that explanation didn't ring true to some people, specifically Celeb Dirty Laundry, who got suspicious and did some sniffing around about that particular antibiotic. And they discovered that while an allergic reaction from that drug is rare, in less than 1 in 1000 cases it can result in anaphylaxis. But even in those instances, the maximum hospital time suggested is twenty-four hours. To support their claims, they included this passage from the drug's Wikipedia page:

“A period of in-hospital observation for between 2 and 24 hours is recommended for people once they have returned to normal due to concerns of biphasic anaphylaxis.”

So that's interesting…why would any doctor need to hold Miley for twenty-seven days? That's an awfully long time; long enough amount of time to postpone the entire remainder of her U.S. tour. Although she'll obvi be back in action for the beginning of the Bangerz Tour's European leg, which begins in Amsterdam on May 2nd. (Sigh.)

Their theory is that she's being held for a drug detox, just to make sure she doesn't use any substances that could react poorly with any medications she's being prescribed. They think that she did indeed have an allergic reaction, but that she's being observed just because they can't trust her not to be mixing and matching antibiotics and oh, I don't know, molly and pot.

Miley's bragged extensively about loving both of them in her songs, and you'd be shocked at how poorly they interact with medications. Or maybe you wouldn't, which is why you're at your work desk and not in a hospital bed right now.
