Michelle Williams Is Growing Out Her Hair, Might Be Moving On From Heath Ledger’s Death

Late Show with David Letterman

Michelle Williams has rocked a pixie cut for long enough that it's become her signature style, helping to distinguish her from all of her generic, long-haired, red carpet brethren. But that's all about to change!

In a recent interview with E! News, Michelle said that she is planning to grow out her hair. “I think I'm ready,” she said. “It's on its way, slowly but surely.” On the awkward transitional period, she said,  “That's why I've stayed with short hair for so long.  The mid-stage is insufferable. It's really hard on your self-esteem.” Points for modesty, but if anyone can rock awkward transitional hair hard enough to make it look good, it is her. Soon, girls will be cutting their hair like that on purpose.

This comes a year and a half after Ms. Williams said she was keeping it short in memory of her late ex fiance Heath Ledger: “I cut it for the one straight man who has ever liked short hair and I wear it in memorial of somebody who really loved it.” Could this mean that she's moving on from the memory of his tragic death? If so, this could be a healthy development, despite the fact that short hair looks awesome on her.

It also seems like Michelle has been having no shortage of fun with the movies she's been making, even when doing a bunch of boring promotional stuff; last night on Letterman, she let us all in on a game she and her fellow cast members play to try to keep the press tour interesting, whereby they have to drop random, pre-selected words into their interviews. So be on the lookout for that. She talks about it from 4:00 to 7:30 or so in the below video, but the whole thing is pretty worth watching:
