Michael Jackson Used To Prank Call Russell Crowe, Because I Guess God Likes Mad Libs

Russell Crowe Man of Steel premiere Madrid June 2013

Sometimes I'm just convinced that a celebrity news story was inspired by a late-night game of Mad Libs played by either a website's editors or even just God himself, leaning back in his heavenly easy chair with one of those paperback game books you buy for a dollar at the airport, filling in celebrity names and having a good rumbling laugh. How else do you explain this new story about Russell Crowe getting prank phone calls from Michael Jackson?

In a post simply titled “Russ's super story,” The Sun explains that Russell was “stalked” by the king of pop himself. I might have picked a different verb to put in that blank if it were my Mad Libs game, but whatever. Based on Russell's quote, using the word “stalked” seems to be jumping the gun, but the whole point of Mad Libs is that you don't know what the outcome will be, so who am I to complain?

“Michael Jackson used to tease me on the phone. He’d ring me and in a strong voice say, ‘There is an emergency and you need to leave the building’. I’d ask, ‘Who is this?’ And he’d say, ‘Do not worry Russell, just kidding, this is Michael’.”

And then Russell would throw the phone at him out of anger. Just kidding, that's an excerpt from my own Russell Crowe Mad Libs game, based on actual occurrences. I like to keep my Mad Libs historically accurate.

But really now, can you think of a more random celebrity pairing or a more colorful activity to go with it? What made Michael decide to call Russell? Was he playing a Mad Libs game of his own, the kind that requires you to do whatever he Mad Lib says or else something terrible happens? Ooh, come to think of it, I'm gonna go pitch that as a movie. It's The Ring meets Jumanji and audiences will go crazy for it.

What's the noise I hear now? Oh, it's just God moving on to another page in his Mad Libs book. This one sounds like Audrey Hepburn sticking Miley Cyrus' fingers in a glass of water at a sleepover. Oh, You!
