Turns out celebrities get just as nervous to meet other celebrities as normals do. And just like so many of us who've said something weird or made an awkward selfie face or just generally been an anxious mess while meeting a famous person, sometimes celebrities' encounters with other celebrities go less smoothly than they'd hoped. Even when the celebrities later become amazing co-stars and real-life friends, like Melissa McCarthy and Sandra Bullock.

Melissa told People about being “a nervous wreck” before talking to Sandra on the phone before they starred in The Heat together. That nervousness led to an interesting habit:

“I was like, ‘Oh my God, I'm going to get a call from Sandra Bullock!' And I was still saying first and last name, I could only say ‘Sandra Bullock.' Like ‘Hello, Sandra Bullock.' ‘Nice to meet you, Sandra Bullock.' ‘Nice to chat with you, Sandra Bullock.'”

And Melissa's not exaggerating. When she finally got on the phone with Sandra, she continued to be on a first-and-last-name basis with her. But that's not the only awkwardness that occurred. She says that Sandra was talking quietly to her on the phone because she was rocking her baby at the time. So naturally Melissa adjusted her own speaking volume, forgetting that she wasn't actually in the room with Sandra:

“And then I weirdly whispered, and she was like, ‘You don’t have to whisper, you're not on speaker,' and I was like, ‘I realize that, Sandra Bullock. I'm sorry, Sandra Bullock. I'll stop whispering to your baby.'”

And then they became friends. So just remember that if you ever get to meet your favorite celebrity and think you totally blew it. Of course, it would probably help if you then starred in a hilarious movie together and had the opportunity to get to know each other better. But that shouldn't be too hard, right? You'll be wearing matching fisherman Halloween costumes in no time.
