Melissa McCarthy Gives an Answer About the Gilmore Girls Revival, but You Won’t Like It

If you were still holding out hope that Melissa McCarthy would return to Gilmore Girls as Sookie St. James for the upcoming Netflix revival, I'm sorry to say I don't think your dreams will come true. Melissa has been pretty much the only member of the cast whose return hasn't been announced, as most of us probably expected considering how famous she's become since the show ended.

Melissa previously shared on Twitter that she wasn't invited back, despite creator Amy Sherman-Palladino saying she offered to write Melissa into the show if she was available. Either there was some miscommunication somewhere or one of them is lying, because that's the story Melissa stuck to when she talked to E! News about whether she'll be returning to Stars Hollow.

“I don't think I am. I didn't actually get asked to do it. But I think they thought I was busy, and then by the time it did come up, then I actually was.”

So that sounds like a no. I guess Yanic Truesdale didn't convince her that time they had dinner. It'll be interesting to see how they handle her character's absence, since Sookie's husband Jackson (Jackson Douglas) has been announced as returning, and the new episodes reportedly take place over a year. Maybe she'll be at a year-long chef's conference? Will she be the new Mr. Kim and we'll just wonder the whole time if she exists?

Melissa adds that she's excited about the arrival, even if it's only as a spectator:

“I'm actually thrilled that it's happening. I loved that show, and I think the fans for that show are super loyal and great and I will watch every single one of them.”

And if another season happens, it sounds like she might be interested in filling Sookie's shoes again:

“I want to cook again. I want to put salt and then stir. That was seven years of my life and it was really great. I was proud of that show.”

Yeah, unless you get busy again. We get it, Melissa. Just tear our hearts out, why don't you?
