Melanie Griffith And Antonio Banderas Split After 200 Years Together In Hollywood Time

Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas attending Cannes International Film Festival May 2011It's a Friday and it's summertime, which means it's prime time for celebrity breakup announcements. And today's contestants are Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas, who are getting a divorce after eighteen years of marriage.

Eighteen years! That's a long effing time, especially by Hollywood standards. I feel like I remember reading that the average relationship there is like eight years long, so these two seriously killed it. It certainly explains how they're smart enough to sneak the news of their breakup in at the end of the day on a June Friday, when everyone's away from their computers enjoying fresh air and sunshine. (I will get there momentarily as well, I promise.)

Apparently it was Melanie, 56, who filed for divorce from Antonio, 53, citing irreconcilable differences. She's also seeking spousal support, child support and sole physical (although joint legal) custody of their daughter Stella, who turns eighteen in September. Kinda makes you wonder why they didn't wait three more months to get divorced at a point when custody wouldn't be an issue, but whatever.
According to Just Jared, the divorce is amicable, which makes sense because they've both had plenty of practice ending marriages — this is Antonio's second divorce and Melanie's fourth.
