One Excited Magic Mike Extra Got A Little Too Friendly With Matthew McConaughey’s Butt
Matthew McConaughey‘s ass as it appears in Magic Mike may actually be one of the great wonders of the world. It's taut, it's round, and it's so expressive that it probably deserves its own Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. Hence, it seems only natural that extras on the movie would take the opportunity to try to get to know it as well as possible. You just don't let that kind of thing pass you by.
Still, one plucky extra may have overstepped the line a bit, at least according to a story director Steven Soderbergh told at the New York Critics Circle awards Monday night. “While we were shooting Matthew's script sequence, one very impassioned woman extra pulled his G-string off and tried to stick her finger up his butt,” Soderbergh said while introducing McConaughey, who was about to come up and receive an award for Best Supporting Actor for his work in both Magic Mike and Bernie. “And when I remembered that, I thought, You know, where I come from, you stand up for a guy who brings that kind of game to your movie.” And there it was: Matt's Moment, played out just the way his mother dreamed it would the first time little Matthew took off his shirt and announced his intentions to act.
“I don’t think she was trying to stick her finger up my butt,” Matt clarified diplomatically when he reached the stage. “She was trying to put it somewhere, though, and you got it on film. It worked out.” Where was she trying to put it? Did she aim for his nose and miss horribly? In any case, I think Matt deserves an extra award for being so cool about this, and the extra deserves a Best Supporting Extra award for inhabiting her role so fully.
