Mackenzie Phillips reveals sexual relationship with her father

Ugh, this is so gross and sordid and SAD. Mackenzie Phillips, best known for her role in “One Day at a Time”, has revealed that she had an ongoing sexual, consensual relationship with her father, musician John Phillips of the '60s band the Mamas and the Papas.

In her new autobiography titled “High on Arrival”, Mackenzie remembers on the eve of her wedding when she was 19, her dad came over and in an attempt to stop the wedding (not sure why he wanted to stop the wedding, but anyway) took a ton of drugs, and Mackenzie pretty much went along with the drug taking. When she woke up, she was in her father's bed, and they were having sex. Here's what she had to say:

“My father was not a man with boundaries. He was full of love, and he was sick with drugs. I woke up that night from a blackout to find myself having sex with my own father.”

“Had this happened before? I didn't know. All I can say is it was the first time I was aware of it.”

Apparently the relationship went on for almost a decade, and yes, it was consensual. At one point John asked her to run away with him to a country where nobody would frown on their relationship. She said no.

I don't know how to be funny about this, it's just so incredibly sick and sad. I hope she gets the help she very obviously needs.
