Watch Chris Zylka Try To Save Face After Slamming Ex-Girlfriend Lucy Hale On Twitter

Lucy Hale Chris Zylka break-up tweets slam apologizeIt's got to be tough to be members of young Hollywood, expected to be just as mature and accomplished as your older forebears, and on top of all that to experience the constant scrutiny of social media. So we can't fault young celebrities for slipping and getting emotional, like was the case with The Secret Circle star Chris Zylka.

Chris had been dating Pretty Little LiarsLucy Hale for the last six months, but when a fan recently tweeted at him about how perfect his girlfriend is, Chris gave this curt, and then enigmatic and bitter, response:

don't have a girlfriend. She decided she was too good

Never any disrespect towards anyone. Only if you say what you say you should stick to it. If you say you love then love

Not surprisingly, the reaction to Chris' tweets was overwhelmingly negative. Aside from the fact that Lucy has a strong, loyal PLL fanbase, the fact that they dated for only six months makes it hard to take Chris seriously when he makes veiled references to Lucy somehow leading him on or betraying him.

Here's where Chris experienced the all-too-familiar regret of vaguetweeting, but instead of going the usual celebrity route of deleting the evidence, he published a lengthy apology. You ready? (Edited for clarity.)

I'd like to apologize about my previous comments. Lucy is not only one of the most talented people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing but also one the most beautiful inside, and out. Anyone who's ever watched, or had the pleasure of meeting her knows this to be true

I apologize for tarnishing any view anyone has on this amazing women. I had the honor of loving her. That love will never fade, as your love should never fade from her is well. She's going to change the world one day. And the last thing I want to do is be any reason for her to look bad in any way. She a remarkable human with an infectious personality, and a heart bigger than anyone's I've ever known. Proud to love her. And I'll continue to be her biggest fan as I know she will to me too. Love you all and be well and don't forget

After reading the apology, I'm torn on how to feel about this kid. My knee-jerk reaction was cynical—I figured Chris realized that unless he wanted to get crucified by Lucy's fanbase, he had to bow down to his ex's considerable fame. (Honestly, until this story I knew Chris only as one of the actors who actually really wanted to play Finnick Odair.) On the other hand, having been through a big break-up myself, I know how easy it is to bitterly spout out your acidic feelings, then be able to look back on your faux pas a day or two later and realize how out of line you were.

For her part, Lucy's only reaction seems to be this tweet directed at her fans: Just wanted to say a thank you and I love you to you all xx
