Watch The Lena Dunham Ad For Obama That’s Virgin-Shaming Americans
Have you seen the new Lena Dunham Obama election video where she compares voting for the first time to having sex for the first time? No? Well you should watch it now. Not only because it's pleasantly smart, but also because it's currently making a lot of people really angry. Mostly people who find it offensive that anyone would compare voting to sex.
One involves taking time out of your day to go to the polls and the other involves dancing with Freddie Prinze Jr. while “Kiss, Me” plays softly in the background. So they're really not comparable things at all.
While most people choose not to watch campaign commercials they find offensive, certain conservatives prefer to make them more widespread by talking about them to the press. At first I was like, “why draw attention to this video you hate so much?” Then I was all like, “ohhhh, these ‘conservatives' must be guerrilla marketers for Girls. Now it all makes sense. Well done HBO!”
Daily Mail compiled some of the best responses to the video. You know, the responses that will make you want to spend the day in church repenting for even knowing the name Lena Dunham.
‘Talk about desperation,' a conservative blogger wrote on ‘The Right Scoop.'
‘They've finally sunken to a new low trying to get the youth vote by comparing voting for the first time to having sex for the first time.'
RedState editor-in-chief and CNN contributor Erick Erickson wrote, ‘If you need any further proof we live in a fallen world destined for hell fire, consider the number of people who have no problem with the President of the United States, via a campaign ad, ridiculing virgins and comparing sex to voting.'
He said the only honest part of the ad is that Obama's 2008 supporters ‘have been screwed — economically.'
Fox News analyst and conservative author Monica Crowley called the ad ‘sick' and ‘degrading' on Twitter.
‘Of the many sick things about this degrading Lena Dunham “lose your virginity to Barack” ad? The left thinks it's “empowering” to women,' she wrote.
While I'd love to sit down and talk about the dangers of this sick and degrading video aimed at college students who may or may not be in the process of losing their virginity as you read this, I'm more concerned about my Lena Dunham costume.
You see, I thought going as “Lena Dunham at the Emmys” would be a cheap Halloween costume idea that could possibly unite this country. But now I'm wondering if that will be too risque, too divisive during this election season.
Let me know in the comments if going as a naked Lena Dunham eating cake on the toilet will lead to the downfall of democracy!
