Leisha Hailey And Camila Grey Chastise Southwest Airlines For Homophobic Discrimination

If a business is going to discriminate against a lesbian couple, they'd perhaps be wise to avoid discriminating against one of the most high-profile lesbian couples around. No such luck for Southwest Airlines, however — on Monday L Word star Leisha Hailey and her girlfriend Camilia Grey were escorted off a flight for “inappropriate behavior.” Meaning: a brief and innocuous kiss — you know, like the way that couples do.

Leisha immediately took to Twitter to complain about what she felt was homophobia on the part of the company, which, incidentally, happens to be the official airline of GLAAD. Leisha called for a boycot of Southwest and dews of the incident spread quickly. Leisha and Camila have released a statement, wherein they continue to reprimand Southwest:

“We find it very disturbing that the same airline who lauds itself as being LGBT friendly has twisted an upsetting incident that happened into our behavior being ‘too excessive.' The above is not an apology and we are in the process of filing a formal complaint with the airline. No matter how quietly homophobia is whispered, it doesn’t make it any less loud. You can’t whisper hate. We ask this airline to teach their employees to not discriminate against any couple, ever, regardless of their own beliefs.”

In addition to being romantically linked, Leisha and Camila (a musician who was previously part of the great L.A. band Mellowdrone) play in the electro band Uh Huh Her together. Here's their video for “Explode”:
