Here’s Hoping Kristen Stewart’s New Short Haircut Will Make Her Relevant Again

Kristen Stewart just debuted a new short haircut at the Chanel Haute Couture show at Paris Fashion Week, and I think it looks pretty good. I'm still not sold on the color and the visible roots, and she still doesn't look like she wants to be there or to be wearing those clothes, which kind of depresses me, but I think a shorter cut really suits her looks and her personality. And it might also suit her career.

I don't know if you've noticed, but K.Stew has kind of turned into one of those “Oh hey, haven't seen you in a while. What have you been up to? I think you're disappearing a little bit around the edges, you should get that checked out” celebrities. Ever since her break-up with Robert Pattinson she's been a little less visible, and even though she's coming out with new projects, they're not looking so good. But could a haircut be the key to relevance? That's what I speculated in my April post “10 Ways Kristen Stewart Can Revive Her Career.” Am I psychic? Did Kristen take my advice? Is this just a coincidence? Am I overthinking this? You decide.

To quote myself, which I've always wanted to do, “Sometimes it takes literally seeing someone differently to see someone differently.” It sounds shallow, but Hollywood is shallow, and sometimes just witnessing a celebrity change their physical image can be the first step in changing your opinion about them or just sitting up and paying more attention. And short haircuts have become synonymous with “it girls.” Look at Jennifer Lawrence, Shailene Woodley, Emma Watson, and even — dare I say it — Miley Cyrus. Maybe don't look at Anne Hathaway. That was an anomaly. She won an Oscar, yes, but at what cost?

This haircut being the first step in the public changing their opinion of K.Stew or having it steer her towards better movie roles is probably a bit of stretch in itself. But the fact of the matter is it's gotten us to notice her again and literally see her differently, and it didn't take a scandal or a break-up or her giving the paparazzi the finger to do it, which is nice for a change. What I definitely do like about this haircut is that it doesn't seem like Kristen's trying to be someone she's not. And that suits her. Next step, make better movies.
