Dear Kourtney Kardashian: Can’t You Just Borrow Kim’s Wigs Instead Of Dyeing Your Hair While Pregnant?

Kourtney Kardashian dye hair stupid dangerous pregnantWith the seemingly neverending pregnancies of Hilary Duff and Jessica Simpson, you forget that other celebrities are also with child. Unfortunately, the way in which we were reminded of Kourtney Kardashian‘s second child was brought on by fears for the fetus' safety. You see, Kourtney posted to her Celebuzz blog today about how for the first time in over a decade she's decided to dye her hair.

Am I the only one who remembers danger and the threat of birth defects attached to the idea of a pregnant woman coloring her hair? I know that my mother stayed away from hair coloring (much to her chagrin) while pregnant with me, but that was 23 years ago so you'd assume that modern technology has made non-dangerous hair dye. Professional opinions are split: The American Pregnancy Association and other parenting sites acknowledge that while there probably isn't a huge risk, it's better to wait until the second trimester, do highlights instead of chemicals that touch your scalp, do it in a well-ventilated area, and other caveats.

To be fair, Kourtney swore that she followed all of these rules:

I did research about doing anything to the color of my hair while pregnant and followed all of the guidelines from my doctor and took the proper precautions necessary. I highlighted my hair (which is considered the safest form of hair color while pregnant) and NOT to the root, so nothing ever touched my scalp. I also used products that did not contain any ammonia. It is also recommended to be in a well-ventilated area as well as being at least in your second trimester, and I followed both of those rules. Anyone who knows anything about me knows that I take caution in all the products I use all the time, but especially when pregnant.

It's difficult to suss out the tone here. Is Kourtney on edge because she knows she'll get criticized, and she's already defending herself? Or is this a “the lady doth protest too much” situation? Regardless, Kourtney has a very easy solution to this problem: Borrow some of sister Kim‘s wigs for the next two months to satisfy her desire for new hair, then wait til the baby is born to actually change her hair color.

Kim Kardashian platinum blonde wigThat's right—by our calculations from when she announced her pregnancy about four months ago, Kourtney's little girl should be coming into the world in a matter of weeks. She really couldn't wait that long? Anyway, the Kardashian sisters are so share-y, I don't imagine it would be a problem for Kourtney to borrow some of Kim's recent wigs she's been wearing all around LA — platinum blonde, a sleek bob, and even a fiery red one — and play around with her appearance. Unless… and this would be really fucked-up… Kourtney felt she had to dye her hair to compete with Kim's recent wig-tastic twitpics? God, I hope not.

Comments on Kourt's post were split: Some women praised her for treating herself, while one commenter pointed out that today is Autism Awareness Day and that experts have cited certain chemicals as a possible cause of autism. Then it devolved into bitchy fighting among the commenters — no joke, calling each other “bitter toad” and “fat ass” — and all hope of an enlightening conversation was lost.
