Kim Kardashian’s Selfie Was Her ‘Middle Finger To The World,’ But It Looked More Like A Butt To Me

Kim Kardashian post-baby body selfie of her ass October 2013Kim Kardashian went on The Tonight Show last night to talk to Jay Leno about everything from her fairy tale proposal to that daughter she has… what's her name again? North? That doesn't sound right. Anyway, the part of the interview I want to talk about is the part that's all about her post-baby body.

As you may or may not have heard, post-baby bodies are the most important thing to ever happen in our world today. Jay asked Kim about that now-infamous ass selfie she posted to Instagram earlier this month as part of her public sexting with Kanye West. Here's the explanation Kim gave for why she shared it.

“I was trying on a bathing suit, and I actually just sent that to my boyfriend, my fiancé, and I was like, ‘Babe, can I post this up? This is my big, like, middle finger to the world on everyone that called me fat.'”

I've never really understood the logic behind people losing weight and then rubbing their new slimmed-down bodies in the faces of the people who called them fat before. Isn't that sort of implying that you agreed with their criticisms of you and felt the need to change yourself? It's basically saying, “You called me fat before and that was really uncool, but I agree with you that I was fat and shouldn't have looked like that, so I lost the weight and now I look like this. Take that!” Plus, Kim herself seemed to think looking pregnant was some kind of shameful thing, because we heard rumor after rumor during her pregnancy that she was planning plastic surgery and working out non-stop.

Don't get me wrong, none of this excuses the people who shamed Kim for her pregnant body, and she still has the right to lose that weight or keep it on — it's her body and therefore her decision. But bragging about how much better she looks now and thinking that's some kind of revenge on people who criticized her is sort of a conflicting sentiment. As is her statement elsewhere in the interview that she's “definitely tried to live more of a private life because of” all the negative press she received while pregnant. Yes, posting a photo of your ass is extremely private.
