The Kardashians Give Up On Pretending Their Show Is Real, Film A Christmas Special In September
The Kardashians really are some of the most interesting people we have in this world. They're famous for the very act of being famous, inspiring a “chicken or the egg”-style mystery that will haunt us all to our graves. We hate them yet we can't stop wanting to know about their lives. They would have us think their show Keeping Up With the Kardashians is real, despite mounting evidence from anonymous sources — and also from the parts of our brains that possess common sense — that the show is scripted.
But now all that's changing, because yesterday the Kardashians filmed their new Christmas special. In September. And I thought the department stores got too much of a head start on the holiday season. The twist, however? The Kardashians were totally kool with everyone knowing what they were doing. Multiple members of the klan shared photos of the event on their Instagrams, including newly blonde Kim Kardashian, who tweeted, “Long beautiful work day with the family! Shot a very fun Christmas special! Can't wait to share more later! Night! Xo.”
While I'm mostly just surprised Kris Jenner didn't arrange to have the episode referred to as the “Krismas special,” I'm also highly amused that these krazy kids got all dressed up in their silkiest pajamas with full hair and makeup and sat around a decorated tree in the middle of September.
Whether this is meant to be some kind of “tell-all” sit-around-the-couch interviewy thing or whether they're really having Christmas morning three months early, it so beautifully captures what the Kardashians are all about. Namely, fakeness. Their whole life is a sham, and I think it's gotten to the point where they simply don't know what's real anymore. I wouldn't be surprised if Ryan Seacrest told them it really was December 25th and they believed him. And then Kim scolded them for not telling her she'd been in hiding for so long.
I for one cannot wait to see this special. I'm sure it'll be up there with the Doctor Who and Downton Abbey Christmas specials. Come to think of it, it's very British of the Kardashians to do this. Did they realize how much Americans adore British accents and decide to try it out themselves? I hope against hope that's not the case, but I'm totally watching if it is. It's a confusing situation, I know.
