Kate Winslet Reveals Which Team She’s On in the Great Titanic Raft Debate
One of the greatest debates to come out of the movie Titanic, aside from “How the hell did this movie win Best Picture?“, is “Could Jack have fit on that floating piece of ship with Rose and survived?” Some people argue there was plenty of room for the both of them, while others say it's about buoyancy, not space. The Mythbusters determined that the wood could have floated with the help of Rose's life jacket, while James Cameron was just like, “Haha, I'm the director and what I say goes.” But what about Rose herself, Kate Winslet? What does she think?
Well, we found out last night during Kate's appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Jimmy brought up Kate's relationship with Leonardo DiCaprio, and he just casually dropped in a comment about how “in a way you let him freeze to death in the water.” Instead of getting defensive and saying that Rose did the best she could, Kate is all, “I agree. I think he could have actually fitted on that bit of door.” So we know what side Kate and Jimmy are on in this debate. Now we just have to poll the rest of Hollywood.
I've always thought that, even if the wood was going to sink with both of them on it, Rose could at least show some concern for Jack's life when he's in the water. She never even argues with him about the decision or offers to take turns or worries that he's going to freeze. She's just like, “Jack, I'm so cold.” You're cold? Your boyfriend is up to his ears in freezing water with nothing but a thin shirt and some broken handcuffs on, and you've got 5,000 layers of turn-of-the-century clothing and a life vest. And then she acts so surprised when he dies. WHAT DID YOU THINK WAS GONNA HAPPEN?!
