Taylor Swift Is Understandably Not Happy With Kanye West’s New Lyric About Her

Here I was thinking, based on this year's celebrity couples, that we'd traveled back to 2013. But it turns out we're actually back in 2009, because Kanye West and Taylor Swift are on the outs again. This time it's not because Kanye interrupted a speech of hers. It's because he released an offensive lyric referencing that time he interrupted a speech of hers. We've come full circle.

Kanye premiered both his Yeezy Season 3 fashion show and his new album The Life of Pablo at Madison Square Garden yesterday. One of the songs he debuted was “Famous,” in which he raps this charming lyric about Taylor:

I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex / Why? I made that bitch famous.

Taylor's fans, friends and family were understandably pissed, with Gigi Hadid making it clear on Twitter that just because she was present at the show doesn't mean she supports Kanye's message.

Taylor's brother Austin, meanwhile, posted an Instagram video showing himself throwing his Yeezy sneakers in the trash.

So what does Taylor herself think of the song? Last night TMZ reported that Kanye had gotten Taylor's approval of the lyric before he released it, making sure she understood it was “a joke.” But according to a statement released by Taylor's spokesperson, that is not the case at all:

“Kanye did not call for approval, but to ask Taylor to release his single ‘Famous' on her Twitter account. She declined and cautioned him about releasing a song with such a strong misogynistic message. Taylor was never made aware of the actual lyric, ‘I made that bitch famous.’”

So Kanye apparently asked Taylor to promote his single containing disrespectful lyrics about her on her Twitter account, without actually showing her said disrespectful lyrics. You might be wondering why Taylor would warn him about a misogynistic message if she didn't know that lyric. It might have a little something to do with the rest of the song, which features lyrics such as:

For all the girls that got dick from Kanye West
If you see 'em in the streets give 'em Kanye's bests
Why? They mad they ain't famous
God damn
They mad they're still nameless

What a musical genius, am I right? This, coupled with that tweet about Bill Cosby being innocent, is not doing Kanye any favors.

Oh, and by the way, what does Kim Kardashian think about her husband rapping about the possibility of having sex with another woman? She's a #proudwife.

Meanwhile, Kanye released a string of tweets this morning saying that not only did Taylor approve of the lyric, she actually came up with it. Oh and also, she should be honored to be called a bitch.
